Anna Sui

Anna Sui was born in 1964, in Detroit, Michigan. Her passion for fashion began at an early age, where she would dress up dolls and toy soldiers for her own version of the academy awards. As Anna Sui got older she began creating her own designs by clipping fashion magazines pages to fill her famous Genius Files. Anna Sui has used these files as a database and inspiration for her designs and her own fashion lines. Anna Sui attended Parsons School of Design.

After Anna Sui had graduated she began to work for different junior sportswear companies, she was also designing her own clothes and sold them at boutiques and stores such as Macy’s and Bloomingdales. Anna Sui was friends with top models such as Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, they encouraged her to launch her first runway show in 1991. Having such high listed models in her show and a beautiful, culturally creative line gave Anna Sui an edge. In 1992 Anna Sui opened her first store in Soho. The boutique's vibrant mix of black Victorian furniture, purple walls, papier mache dollyheads and rock n' roll posters closely reflects Anna Sui's personal decorating style and has been the model for all of her shops.

Anna Sui’s style is vintage mixed with her current cultural obsession, over the years she has created original clothing lines that puts her a step forward each time. Anna Sui is renowned for mixing styles and has used various cultures to achieve each look, from Victorian cowboys to Warhol superstars. The colors and Finnish textile prints illustrate her depth of cultural knowledge she says "When I'm interested in something, I want to know everything about it” and from this her creations are always superb. Anna's constant search for new ideas and challenges keeps her ahead of her times. She's a true trendsetter to whom stylists and editors look for direction. The energy and creativity of her runway presentations always make her shows a high point of New York Fashion Week.

Anna Sui’s collection continued to grow and she branched out into many different avenues. The late 1990s was a time of significant growth for Anna Sui. Anna Sui began to expand her company and she launched cosmetics, fragrance, shoes and accessory licenses. Her devotion to detail is apparent in every one of her products. Her iconic make-up packaging and fragrance bottle design have even become collectors' items.

In more recent times Anna Sui has proven to be success with 32 boutiques in five countries and her collection is sold in 300 stores in over 30 countries.
