Dolce and Gabbana

Dolce and Gabbana is a relatively a new brand. Stefano Gabbana was born in 1962 in Venice, Italy while Domencio Dolce was born in 1958 in Sicily, Italy. Dolce studied fashion design in Sicily and gained fashion experience through his parents business. Gabanna, studied graphic design and gained experience by working as an assistant in an atelier in Milan. Their paths crossed in 1980 and Dolce and Gabbana was born.

In 1982 the pair had their first fashion consulting studio and in 1985 they showed their first collection in Milan. This show was a great success despite all predictions of failure for reasons being that they were too young. Their designs included complicated system fastenings and later they would see signature designs including corset dresses, gangster pinstripes and sexy black suits. They began to spread worldwide, opening a store in Japan in 1989. Following this Dolce and Gabbana launched their men’s collection.

Dolce and Gabbana are loved by fashion magazines and film stars, this Italian sex bomb look, inspired by films of Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, and Federico Fellini the pair grew up on, coupled with an adoration of the strongly romantic Mediterranean ideals of Sicily.

The Dolce and Gabbana duo have attained several awards, including those achieved in the 90’s for ‘Best Fragrance of the year’ and the ‘Wollmark Award’. By the end of the 1990’s it was reported that their sales were around $500 million per year. They were Hollywood’s number one chosen designer, in 1993 Dolce and Gabbana designed 1500 costumes for Madonna’s world tour and in the same year ‘Dolce and Gabbana Parfum’ fragrance was awarded the international prize as the best feminine perfume. In 1996, the duo won the French award ‘Oscar des Parfums’ for their Dolce and Gabbana Pour Homme fragrance.

Many fragrances available today include Dolce & Gabbana cologne for Men, D & G Masculine, Sun, and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Sun, Feminine, Sicily, and Dolce & Gabbana The One perfume for women. Fragrances are a large category for Dolce and Gabbana. The designers added new scents in the late 1990s to appeal to younger consumers, enhancing their already successful fragrance line. D&G Feminine and D&G Masculine were launched in 1999, Light Blue, targeted at 25-to 40-year-olds, debuted in 2001. All the Dolce and Gabbana fragrance for both men and women represent the same sexy, audacious spirit that has become synonymous with that name of Dolce and Gabbana.
