Estee Lauder

Estee Lauder is a well-known cosmetics and fragrance company; it was created by Josephine Ester Mentzer and her husband Joseph Lauder. Josephine Ester Mentzer, later known as Estee Lauder, was born in New York city.Her parents were Hungarian who owned a department store in Queens, they also lived in an apartment on top of their store. Estee Lauder was the 9th daughter and a very ambitious person. In 1948 Estee Lauder and her husband created the famous company and released a range of products with their own formula, this range included crème packs, cleansing oils, skin and crème lotion combinations. They had also established their first retail department store account in Saks Fifth Avenue.

By 1953 Estee Lauder released her first fragrance called Youth Dew, this was a bath oil that doubled as a fragrance. This meant that women were able to indulge themselves in beautifully scented baths and smell immaculate, this range appealed to many women who could use this instead of the expensive French scents that could only be used behind the ears. In the first year they sold around fifty thousand products. In the earlier years Estee lauder introduced sampling and testing as a marketing strategy to lure new customers in, they were continually sourcing new strategies even though they had a small budget for advertising. Estee Lauder was only available in high end department stores and boutiques, to this day they continue to only offer their range to prominent and established stores.

By 1960’s Estee Lauder was worldwide they had accounts all over the globe from Harrod’s in London, Central America, Sweden , Belgium, New Zealand and Spain. Today there are very few countries out there that are not selling a range of Estee Lauder products. In 1964 Estee lauder branched out and targeted a market that was completely neglected, Estee Lauder launched the first exclusive men’s fragrance line called Aramis for men, today Aramis continue to develop leading products designed for men. Estee Lauder also launched a leading skin care range called Clinique that offer products to both men and women.

In 1967 Estee Lauder received a great award, she was recognised as one of the countries top 10 Oustanding Women in Business. The following year they created Clinique Labs. They used the best that art and science can possibly create. Today they have become the largest privately owned cosmetics company in the world. It includes a large amount of recognisable companies including Aramis, Clinique, Mac, Bobbi Brown, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Aveda, La Mer and Jo Malone.

Some fragrances exclusive to Estee Lauder include Pleasures, Beautiful and Beyond Paradise all with various scents ranging from florals to fresh scents for all occasions.
