Hugo Boss

Hugo Boss established his company in 1923 in Metzingen, where it continues to be based today, a small town south of Stuttgart, Germany. Due to the economic climate in Germany at the time Boss was forced into bankruptcy in 1930 and before and during World War II. Hugo Boss designed and manufactured uniforms and attire for the troops and officers in the army of Germany, including those troops in the SS. Hugo died in 1948 and two years following this, his grandsons, Uwe and Jochen Holy, took over the company. The brothers had a great ability for business and turned the company entirely around, steering it into a new, more promising direction of men’s wear.

The brothers had strengths in two great areas, Jochen, the younger of the two, had a magnificent sense for the latest trends, whilst his older brother, Uwe, developed the necessary marketing strategies. With this advantage they began to modernise their production plants and increase their capacities to satisfy the exploding demand during Germany's postwar economic boom. The Brothers made a huge gain by founding Hugo Boss’s first range of men’s suits. They made brown, blue, green, and black suits for men. The good-quality, sturdy fabric they used was also made in Metzingen, by textile maker Gaenslen & Voelter. Priced above average and cut in a more youthful way than the suits of the German men's wear establishment of the time, the suits and jackets of the Holy brothers outperformed all their competitors' within just a decade.

The BOSS industry is epitomised by three independent and uniquely positioned lines targeting various needs. The menswear collections are focused in BOSS Black on elegant business wear, with BOSS Orange providing up-to-date casual wear and the BOSS Green collection offering performance sportswear. The company's clothing, shoes, fragrances and accessories are available throughout the world in 103 countries and more than 5,000 retail stores.

In the year of 1993, Hugo Boss introduced their first fragrance, and created a department which has since grown to be an important part of the company. Hugo Boss fragrances are unique and emphasises the individuality, elegance and distinctiveness one can achieve from a scent. The Hugo Boss range designed for women who are young and courageous.
