Paloma Picasso

Paloma Picasso, born April 19, 1949 in Vallauris on the French Riviera, a fashion designer and business woman. The youngest of four children of famed artist Pablo Picasso, Paloma’s older brother is Claude, her half brother is Paulo and her half sister is Maya. From a very young age she was surrounded by artists. Her name means "dove" in Spanish and she was named after the famous symbol her father designed for the International Peace Conference in Paris in the year of her birth.

Paloma's career began in 1968, when she was a costume designer working in Paris. Some rhinestone necklaces she had created from her local flea market shopping caused acclaim among critics and she quickly enrolled in a jewellery course. Soon after, Yves Saint Laurent approached her to design accessories to accompany one of his collections and by 1971 she was working for the Greek jewellery company Zolotas.

In 1980, she began designing jewellery for New York’s Tiffany and Co, debuting with signature Xs and scribbles in gold and sterling silver. Shortly after, she launched her own brand, Paloma Picasso and created many perfumes like Paloma Picasso perfume for women and designer fashion accessories.

Paloma developed a relationship whilst working with director and businessman Rafael Lopez-Cambil, they were married for 21 years. After their divorce, she married a French doctor.
