Ralph Lauren

Ralph Lauren is known to be the epitome of fashion. With multiple ranges in men’s, women’s and children’s fashion along with a range of luxury fragrances, Ralph Lauren has come a long way. Born in 1939 in the Bronx, New York and born Ralph Lifschitz, he grew up with his two brothers, raised by his mother and his father, an artist who painted houses. Ralph Lauren has always had an eye for fashion, at an early age of 12 he bought fine suits using the money he earned at his after-school job.

Ralph Lauren studied art and design at the City College of New York and Business in Manhattan. While studying he worked at two glove companies as a salesman, following this he worked as a tie manufacturer, this led to his initial tie designs and generated his first entrepreneurial career. He received a $50,000 loan and founded the company known as Polo Fashions in 1968. The name Polo represents power, style and intrigue.

Ralph Lauren was developing a new line of wide ties in the late 1960’s. These ties became very popular and were the launch of his brands success. Polo then went on to design sophisticated line of men’s suits and shirts that were made from fine fabrics. He catered to the office worker who wanted to look stylish and powerful. Following this line Ralph Lauren went onto a line of women’s clothing as well as a home collection line that included sheets, towels and furniture in the early 80’s.

Ralph Lauren was the first designer to take his brand worldwide, by opening a store in London. Ralph Lauren’s business-savvy mindedness has made him the founder, designer and chairman of a $900 million company. Polo has more than 350 contract manufacturers worldwide, about 275 retail and outlet stores in the US and licenses more than 100 others worldwide. Ralph Lauren continues to control almost 90% of Polo’s voting power.

In 1978 Ralph Lauren introduced his first cologne called Polo. Each Ralph Lauren fragrance is created with a specific lifestyle in mind. Lauren is a flowery and woodsy blend of fragrances and was intended to be a daytime fragrance for the growing number of professional women in the US to wear at the office. Ralph Lauren Perfume is now available under the Safari, Polo Sport, Style, Ralph Cool and Ralph Hot, Ralph Lauren Blue, Pure Turquoise, and new for 2007, the Ralph Rocks labels.

Polo has a range of fragrances and perfumes available today including Ralph, Ralph Hot, Ralph Cool, Ralph Rocks, Pure Turquoise, Ralph Lauren Blue and Romance for women. Ralph Lauren also has a range of masculine scents they include, Romance Silver, Polo Blue, Polo Double Black, Polo Green, Polo Sport, Extreme Polo Sport and Chaps.
